I have designed and landscaped extensive grounds of Manor houses and Mansions through to window boxes and small roof terraces and just about everything in between (including the grounds of a Mosque in Egypt and gardens in the Caribbean). I catagorically believe that the most successful gardens are those that are based on an understanding and respect of and for both the Client and Nature. On that premise, as well as designing and creating more traditional areas like wildflower meadows and herb gardens, I am also comfortable and confident recommending less conventional products like synthetic turf, creating vertical gardens and even outdoor gyms.
It was this practical approach that caught the eye of BBC Wales and resulted in my rather unexpected path into TV presenting. Whilst being responsible for the designs and creations for the numerous makeover gardens that were televised on both Hot Plots and Gardening Angels (for UK Style) I learnt a lot more about creating special areas with both limited time and funds ... more insider secrets that I can share with you.
From 25 years of hands on such varied experience including maintaining many the projects we actually design and create, I have also learnt the importance of leaving the Client with an achievable maintenance schedule. There is no point at all in a design looking good on paper or even when we leave the project, if it isn’t relatively easy and enjoyable to maintain, so this is also of the utmost importance when considering and creating your own designs.
